Direct Access Endoscopy
Direct Access Endoscopy (DAE) (also known as Open Access Endoscopy) is a pathway for suitable adult patients to proceed directly to either a diagnostic colonoscopy or gastroscopy with Dr Prichard at Epworth Hospital, Richmond.
DAE reduces waiting time for patients who do not require a specialist appointment prior to the procedure.
Suitable patients are
Under 75 year old
Weigh <120 kg
Not on anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy (except aspirin)
No prior conditions of anaesthetic/procedural risk
No major medical comorbidities
Medicare eligible with private insurance or self-insured
An Appointment Request must be accompanied by a referral from a
Medical Practitioner which can be forwarded by fax, email attachment or post
